8-Week Meditation Course: Coming Back to the Senses
Tuesdays at 19:00 · Starting 3rd March 2026
Hello Josephine Café, Beckenham
Investment: £200 · Includes guided sessions and home practice support
A clear, progressive introduction to meditation, designed to help you build a sustainable practice that supports calm, clarity, and everyday life.
What this course is
This course offers a clear and progressive approach to understanding the theory and integrating the practice of meditation into everyday life. It focuses on two core elements:
attention training
sensory awareness
What is meditation?
We know the importance of taking care of our minds and our bodies - but they are our minds and bodies. They belong to something - our awareness. Meditation takes care of our awareness, allowing us to become more in tune with our internal states - mentally, physically and emotionally. This in turn allows us to develop more healthy habits of mind, respond to emotional fluctuations with increased skill, and ultimately cultivate a more relaxing life.
Benefits of meditation
While everyone’s experience is different, many people report:
A greater sense of calm and steadiness
Less reactivity and more emotional space
Clearer focus and improved productivity
A feeling of having more time, even in busy lives
Better communication and relationships
A quieter, more reliable sense of joy
These changes come gradually, through regular practice — not instantly. Meditation is not always easy, or relaxing, but it can help us cultivate a more relaxed way of life.
What to expect in a session
90 - 120 minutes per session
Two meditation practices
Feedback circle - to share experience of meditations and home practice (no need to share anything personal - this is not therapy!)
Theoretical input
Home practice
This course requires a commitment to daily home practice (approximately 10–20 minutes, twice per day).
Meditation is a practical, embodied skill. The benefits of the course arise primarily through regular practice between sessions, not through discussion or theory alone.
Support and guidance for home practice are provided throughout the course.
This course may not be right for you if:
– You’re looking for a purely intellectual or discussion-based course
– You’re unable to commit to regular home practice
– You’re seeking quick fixes or instant results
The course is best suited to those willing to engage gradually, patiently, and with curiosity.
About the facilitator
Alex draws on traditions including yoga, Buddhist meditation, MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), and modern neuroscience. He is also a former teacher and headteacher, with a deep understanding of how people learn and how sustainable change is supported over time.
Meditation has been central to his own life, particularly through prolonged periods of difficulty, and informs a grounded, compassionate, and realistic approach to teaching.
